AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT FOR “SORDID LIVES” BY DEL SHORES

MISSISSIPPI HEARTS AGAINST AIDS with support from FONDREN THEATRE WORKSHOP announces auditions for SORDID LIVES by Del Shores.  Audition times:  Sunday, July 9, 2:00-4:00 p.m. AND Monday, July 10,  6:30-8:30 p.m. at The  Cedars Historic Home, 4145 Old Canton Road, Jackson, MS.  Please contact  Diana Howell at fondrentheatre@hotmail.com or at  601-573-1251 to schedule an audition time.  Auditions will be conducted via  cold readings from the script.  Those who wish to audition for the role of  Bitsy Mae Harling need to have a one-minute country-western song prepared. This  character also plays the guitar, so it’s a real plus if you can do that too, but it’s not absolutely required.

STORY DESCRIPTION: As three generations of a family in a small Texas town  gather for the funeral of their matriarch, we learn the hilarious, sad, trashy  truth of their "sordid lives." Among the characters are the grandson trying to find his identity in West Hollywood, the son who has spent the past twenty-three  years dressed as Tammy Wynette, and two polar-opposite sisters struggling over  the fate of their loved ones and their dead mother’s fox stole.  By turns  both hilarious and poignant, SORDID LIVES reveals the family at both its worst  and its best as they come to grips with their grief – and with each other.

SORDID LIVES will be produced cabaret-style in the back room of Hal &  Mal’s during the last two weeks of September (tentative dates are September  21-24 and 28-Oct 1) as a fund raising event for Mississippi HeARTS Against Aids,  a non-profit, 100% volunteer organization that serves as the single largest  fundraiser in Mississippi for HIV/AIDS related issues.

13 ROLES AVAILABLE INCLUDE:

BITSY MAE HARLING, Age 30-50, guitar-playing, ex-con singer

TY WILLIAMSON, 27, a struggling young gay actor on a reluctant journey home
for his grandmother’s funeral

to quit smoking

the deceased

LAVONDA DUPREE, Late 40's, Latrelle’s liberal-minded, worldly sister
