ABOUT FONDREN THEATRE WORKSHOP

Fondren Theatre Workshop was founded in 2003 by a group of five theatre friends, all of whom had an interest in producing theatre "in their own back yard." Since that time, FTW has hosted numerous workshops and developed other projects which involve multiple directors and actors to build a true theatre community, rather than just another community theatre.

With its mission being the building of "a theatre community, with an emphasis on sharing the creative process and the art we create," FTW has produced several full-length plays, including Through the Looking Glass (a musical adaptation by Fondren resident John Howell), The Lion in Winter, Tom Stoppard's Arcadia, and The Sound of Steel by local Fondren resident John Webb. Other projects have included Talking With (which gave six people a chance to direct for the first time and involved a dozen actresses from across the metro area), and the annual New Play Project which showcases new plays by local playwrights and has involved scores of individuals in areas of acting, directing, as well as writing.

LOCATION

Fondren Theatre Workshop does not have a permanent facility, but holds its workshops and productions at various locations in the Fondren area, including Duling School, The Cedars historic home, The PIX/Capri Theatre, The Rainbow Co-op, The Artery, Mississippi Metropolitan Dance Academy of Fondren, and Highland Village.
